Ground Investigation Works - August to December 2024

Ground Investigation Works - August to December 2024

MetroLink is currently in the process of undertaking essential development works for the design stage of the MetroLink project.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland has engaged Causeway Geotech Ltd to carry out these ground investigation works which will involve drilling boreholes, along with associated support works.

The purpose of these works is to provide essential additional information about soil, rock, groundwater conditions and soil contamination conditions, which will inform the design of the tunnels and route alignment of this important new transport system.

Ground investigations are being undertaken mainly in locations in Dublin city centre and will comprise small sites.

We anticipate there should be minimal impact outside of these sites, other than occasional elevated noise levels.

Traffic management arrangements have been discussed with Dublin city Council to minimise the impact of the work on residents, businesses and road users. Access will be maintained to all premises throughout the works.

The ground investigations are expected to take approximately six months, with each borehole taking around four days to complete. Following completion of site works, a single follow-up visit will be conducted which will last approximately two days. Monthly follow-on visits will also be required to record groundwater data in the boreholes. Both follow-up visits will require vehicular access only.

All locations have been assessed by TII’s archaeological team and where there is a risk of archaeology artifacts being encountered, all locations will be monitored under an archaeological licence or ministerial consent.

In the event of any archaeological findings, the works will stop, and further assessments will be carried out.

All ground investigation sites will be fenced off with solid steel panels, with MetroLink signage clearly displayed at all relevant locations.

If you have any questions or concerns during these bore hole works, please contact TII at info@metrolink.ie for any further information.
